KYU is a sculptural lounge chair that draws inspiration from Japanese calligraphy,
paying tribute to the elegant and flowing movements inherent in the art form.

Original inspiration came from calligraphy inspired furniture by Apiwat Chitapanya and Chulan Kwak.

Ideation began with an exploration of Japanese kanji and its movements.

This is the Japanese kanji for “rest”. Its origins come from a human (the left イ character) resting on a tree (the right, 木 character).

The kanji's "tree" element was extracted and re-imagined, incorporating its form and movement to craft a silhouette resembling a chair.

Further refinement of form.

By sitting on KYU, you become the other half and complete the kanji.

Functional Art

The fluid form of KYU allows it to contour to the shape of the body, ensuring a comfortable experience.

Light

Built-in reading light that emphasizes the flowing form of KYU with a warm glow.
